Recycling does NOT Protect Your Data!

Our personal and business computers are the heart of our digital lives. From shopping to school work, taxes to home loans, baby pictures to medical records, your computer is a massive store house of sensitive, personal, and confidential information.   Everyone knows you can’t just toss your old computer in the trash.  We all do the responsible thing and take it to the recycling center or local drop off box.

Unfortunately, YOUR DATA IS NOT SAFE.   When you drop your computer off at a site it will sit there for days, weeks, or months before it is picked up. While it is waiting other people dropping off, yard staff, truck drivers, contractors, and anyone else with access to the pile can walk off with your life.    Then if the 3rd party recycler actually wipes your data (many do not) it will sit again for days, weeks, or months again as it waits in line to be dumped into a giant shredder.  THIS PROCESS HAS VERY LITTLE PROTECTION FOR YOUR DATA.
